Right cross cable (2/2 RC, C4B)
Ropes, braids, honeycomb. The stitches travel to the right and the cross leans right.
How to do it
- Work to the cable stitches.
- Slip 2 sts to a cable needle and hold in back.
- Knit the next 2 stitches.
- Knit the 2 stitches from the cable needle.
- For purl crosses (2/1 RPC, 2/2 RPC), purl the stitches from the cable needle: this way the cable "floats" on a purl background.
Tip
Use a cable needle thinner than your working needle, with a bend in the middle, so the stitches do not slide off.
Cables pull the fabric in: add 1–2 sts per 2/2 cable to the stockinette calculation, and knit your swatch with the cables.
Common mistake
Holding the cable needle in front instead of in back (or vice versa) makes the cable cross the other way.
