Pieces worked separately: back/front, cardigan, blanket, scarf.

1. Worked flat: RS rows (odd) right to left in knit; WS rows (even) left to right in purl, in the same colors as the chart

2. On WS rows, hold both yarns IN FRONT of the work (on the side facing you): the floats still end up on the WS of the piece. Keep the yarns from twisting: one always on top, the other below

How to do it

  1. Read RS rows (1, 3, 5…) from right to left and knit them.
  2. Read WS rows (2, 4, 6…) from left to right and purl the stitches in the same color as on the chart.
  3. On WS rows, hold both yarns in front of the work: then the floats stay on the wrong side.
  4. At the edge, twist the yarns around each other so the unused color does not sag.
  5. Work the edge stitch with both yarns together or in the main color.

Tip

If WS rows are difficult, consider knitting a cardigan in the round with a steek.

Common mistake

Reading a WS row from right to left mirrors the motif.
