Blocking (washing and drying to size)

Before measuring a swatch, before seaming pieces, and always for lace.

Blocking: wash or soak the piece, press out the water in a towel, lay it flat to the schematic and pin. Let it dry completely. Essential for lace: the lace opens up only after blocking

How to do it

  1. Soak the piece in cool water with wool wash for 15–20 min.
  2. Press out the water in a towel without wringing.
  3. Lay it flat according to the schematic and pin it in place.
  4. Let it dry completely.

Common mistake

Drying on a radiator or hanging it up will stretch the piece.
