V-neck

Vests, cardigans, pullovers worn over a shirt. Depth 14–22 cm.

split in half10 decs
1. V-neck: the work is divided in half at the center, and 1 st is decreased evenly on each side up to the shoulder
2. On the neckband, the center stitch of the V always runs through the middle of a double decrease: the point stays sharp

How to do it

  1. Mark the center front. Start the V-neck at the desired height: divide the work in half.
  2. On each side, decrease 1 st at the neck edge evenly up to the shoulder: number of decreases = half the neck opening width.
  3. With an odd number of stitches, place the center stitch on a safety pin: it will become the center of the neckband.
  4. Neckband: work a centered double decrease on the center stitch every round.

Tip

Use k2tog on one side and ssk on the other, so both lines lean toward the neckline.

Common mistake

Starting the V too late leaves too little room for the decreases before the shoulder. The pattern builder will warn you about this.
