Gathered stitch
A stitch from a lower row pulled up to the current one: the fabric gathers into a small tuck here. Used for flowers, waves and lace.
How to do it
- On the wrong side, work to the place marked in the chart and slip the next stitch purlwise to the right needle.
- With the right needle, pick up from below the purl bump of the stitch 5 rows down in the same column.
- Move the picked-up bump to the left needle and return the slipped stitch there too.
- Purl them together.
Tip
The stitch count stays the same: the bump only draws the fabric up.
Pick up the bump in the same column as the current stitch, or the tuck will twist.
